Windows will not let me partition, shrink ore expand drives. Error: "Bitlocker Drive Encryption cannot be used because critical BitLocker system files are missing or corrupted. Use Windows Startup Repair to restore these files to your computer"
When I go to Disk Management to shrink my main partition i enter the amount needed to shrink by and that error appears. Even when i use startup repair the error remains. Is there anyway to use disk management without restoring.

Hi Padraigs,
Welcome to Microsoft Answers.
• Is your hard drive encrypted using Bit locker?
If yes, then you will have to temporarily disable the bit locker encryption to shrink the partition.
To Enable/Disable Bit locker encryption, do the following
i. Click the Start button to view the Start Menu and then choose the Control Panel option.
ii. Click the System and Security.
iii. The System and Security section of Control Panel opens up and you can see the direct link for the Bit Locker Drive Encryption.
iv. Click on the Bit Locker Drive Encryption and a new window opens up.
v. Click Turn Off Bit Locker. This opens the Bit Locker Drive Encryption dialog box. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
vi. To decrypt the drive, click Decrypt the volume. To temporarily suspend Bit Locker, click Suspend Bit Locker Drive Encryption.
vii. Click Turn On Bit Locker to enable bit locker
You may also use the disk part command to shrink the partition. Refer to the link “To shrink a basic volume using a command line “ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731894.aspx#BKMK_WINUI
